The Thompson M1921/M1928 was originally developed The Thompson M1921/M1928 was originally developed as a weapon for the trenches of World War I, but the war ended before production got underway. It became famous in the 1920s and 1930s, becoming an icon of the mafia, smugglers, and the police. It was nicknamed the “Tommy Gun,” “Chicago Typewriter,” or “Trench Broom.” It is known for its high rate of fire (up to around 800–900 rounds/min) and typical drum magazine for 50 or 100 .45 ACP rounds. It was manufactured to an extremely high standard and was expensive – at the height of its fame, it cost more than the rifles of the time. 🔥 Thompson M1A1 – briefly and without nonsense• Year of introduction: 1942• Reason for creation: the original Thompson M1928s were expensive, complicated, and too “luxurious.” The army wanted a cheaper and faster-to-produce version for mass deployment in World War II.🔧 Main modifications of the M1A1 compared to older models• Simplified bolt: The M1A1 had a fixed striking surface directly on the bolt → fewer parts, higher reliability.	• No barrel cooler and no handle: the ribbed cooling grooves and front pistol grip were gone – just a piece of war, nothing extra.• Only box magazines: 20 and 30 rounds (.45 ACP). Drum magazines were no longer used – they were expensive, heavy, and unreliable in combat.• Lower rate of fire: around 600–700 rounds/min, which improved controllability compared to older “mad sewing machines.”⚔️ Combat deployment	• It was carried by the US Army, US Marines, British, Canada, and was supplied to the Soviets under Lend-Lease.• It was extremely valuable in the jungle, urban combat, and at short ranges – the .45 ACP simply stopped everything.💬 Characteristics• Exceptionally reliable, easy to maintain.	• Heavy as hell (around 5 kg loaded), but almost “recoil-free” when firing.• To this day, it remains a WW2 icon, a collector’s gem, and a beautiful piece of history. And you can try out the original M1A1 version at our shooting range.
